Santa Cruz Sentinel Business Digest, Sept. 2, 2016:
Current eBikes to open Saturday

Current eBikes will open 9 a.m. Saturday at 131-D Front St., the first retail bike shop in Santa Cruz County to specialize in electric bicycles. It’s near the Kaiser Arena.

Owner Mike Ahern carries Pedego from Fountain Valley, Xtracycle from Oakland, Stromer from Switzerland and Haibike from Germany. He will rent electric bikes for $20 an hour or $100 a day. Purchase prices range from $2,000-plus to $5,000, $7,000 and $10,000 and up for tech-loaded models. Service will be available.

Ahern aims to serve adults looking to cut car trips for environment, cost and convenience reasons and recreational cyclists wanting to boost the fun factor on the road or trail. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday.
